Privacy Policy

PromptStream is a dictation tool. It hears a lot, and keeps almost none of it. This page explains exactly what that means.

The short version

• Your audio is processed to produce text, then discarded. We never store recordings.
• Your dictation history stays on your own computer. We cannot read it.
• We store your email address, your plan, and a count of words you dictated.
• We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to train models.

What we collect

Account information

When you create an account we store your email address and an encrypted password hash, handled by our authentication provider. If you subscribe, our payment provider stores your billing details — we never see or store your card number.

Usage counts

To enforce plan limits we keep a running count of the number of words you have dictated in the current period, and the number of seconds of audio processed. These are numbers only. The words themselves are not stored.

Audio and transcripts

When you dictate, the recorded audio is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, forwarded to our speech-to-text provider (Groq), and the resulting text is returned to your computer. If AI cleanup is enabled, the transcript is also sent to a language model to remove filler words and fix punctuation.

Neither the audio nor the transcript is written to our database or our disks. They exist only in memory for the moment it takes to process the request. Our provider states that API inputs are not used to train their models.

Your dictation history

The history you see in the app is stored locally on your machine, in your own user directory. It is never uploaded. Deleting an entry in the app deletes it for good. There is no history sync.

Diagnostics

Our server keeps ordinary request logs (timestamp, account id, response status) to operate the service and prevent abuse. These logs do not contain your audio or your text.

What we never do

• We do not record your screen or read what other apps are showing.
• The app listens to the microphone only while you are holding the dictation hotkey. It is not always-on.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers.
• We do not use your speech or text to train any model.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of processors to run the service: a cloud host, an authentication and database provider, a speech-to-text and language-model provider, and a payment processor. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.

Keeping data

We keep your account record while your account exists. Usage counters are kept for billing and abuse-prevention. Ask us to delete your account and we will remove your account record and associated data.

Your rights

You can request a copy of the data we hold about you, ask for corrections, or ask us to delete your account. Email privacy@promptstream.app and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

PromptStream is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, notify account holders by email.
